Archos 101 Saphir, the first rugged tablet in 2017 has been officially announced. However, to know about the price and availability, one should wait for a few more days, as the OEM is saving that for the MWC event. As the name suggests, this is a rugged device, with military grade built quality. Lets discuss about all its features.


In terms of technical specifications, the device is slightly under powered, however, this is kind of device basically sells for its other features. The Archos 101 Saphir is powered by  MT8163 chip with quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU at 1.3 GHz, coupled with 1 GB LPDDR3 RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, with a dedicated SD card slot, which can accept micro SD cards upto 64 GB. There is a 10.1 inch 1280×800 IPS LCD screen, protected by corning gorilla glass.


Looking at the ruggedness of the Archos 101 Saphir, it is military grade IP68 rated device, it means, implying that the device can withstand water and dust up to 1 meter. Other than this, the device also comes with shock proof as well. It even comes with mini HDMI port, it can be connected to stand alone display as well.



Archos 101 SaphirRecently, the company also announced similarly powered smartphone with small form-factor named Archos 50 Saphir. This is a rugged smartphone, powered by MTK MT6737 quad core chipset, with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage with a dedicated SD card slot,and which can accept micro SD card upto 128 GB. The device houses a 5 inch 720p HD screen, protected by tempered glass.


The Archos 50 Saphir is also IP68 certified, for water and dust resistance. The device packs 13 MP rear facing camera, with a single tone LED flash,  supports 1080p video recording capability; in additional it also has a 5 MP front facing camera as well. Both devices are powered by Android Marshmallow, with stock Android experience.
