123

These days, the mid tier smartphones are almost as good as flagship devices. However, there area few differences that can set one apart from the other. The Moto G5 Plus and Redmi Note 4 shares few things in common, and differ in some criteria.

Both devices are priced aggressively, the top of the line Moto G5 Plus costs, INR 16,999 and the Redmi counter part is available for just 12,999. Is the additional 4K is worth? lets find out in our brief comparison.

Display:

Both devices feature 1080p IPS LCD screen. To be precise, the Redmi Note 4 offers a bigger 5.5 inch screen, whereas, the Moto G5 Plus offers a 5.2 inch screen. It is tough to decide the winner here due to the fact that, one may like compact form factor, or a bigger real estate for the multi media consumption. If we look at the protection, the Moto offers Corning Gorilla Glass, whereas, the Redmi comes with some sort of protection, which is unknown (sourced from the different vendors).

Camera:

The Moto G5 Plus, comes with a 12 MP rear facing camera, with dual tone LED flash. The Redmi offers a 13 MP rear facing camera, with same dual tone LED flash. The F/1.7 aperture from the Moto’s frontier makes the camera performance a lot better, in terms of low lightening photography as well as creating depth of field. Though, the Redmi counter part has an upper hand in terms of Mega Pixels count, the low quality sensor makes it low awful. However, it is far better than it’s predecessor Redmi Note 4. The Moto G5 Plus can record native 4K videos; the counter part Redmi only supports upto 1080p at 30 fps. In terms of camera, both devices come with 5 MP fixed focus selfie camera and beauty mode to enhance selfies. The clear winner is Moto G5 Plus.Moto G5 Plus or Redmi Note 4

Processor, RAM and Storage:

Xiaomi offers wide options range, starting from 2 GB, 3 GB and 4 GB RAM with 32 GB or 64 GB of on board storage. Lenovo’s Moto comes with 3 GB or 4 GB RAM with 16 GB or 32 GB of onboard storage. Luckily, both devices offer SD card slot; to add a twist into the tale, the Redmi Note 4 comes with Hybrid slot, which accepts either 2 SIM cards or a SD card and a SIM. In terms of CPU, both devices are powered by identical Qualcomm Snapdragon 625, Oct Core chipset built on a 14nm FinFET technology, consisting of 4 A53 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz and four A53 cores clocked at 1.6 GHz.

Though, the Redmi offers as much built in storage as 64 GB, stand alone SD card support in Moto comes handy in markets like India. So, it’s a tie. As both devices have similar CUP and GPU, the performance is most likely to remain the same among the two.

Battery:

The Moto G5 Plus houses a 3000 mAh Li-Ion sealed battery, whereas, the Redmi Note 4 offers 4100 sealed one. The Moto offers rapid charging, 6 hours juice in 15 minutes, whereas, the Redmi offers on screen time of at least 7 hours, with normal to heavy usage. Both devices missed the USB type C, but offers USB OTG via old school micro USB port. Though, the fast charging comes handy at times, built in long lasting battery always saves the day. Redmi Note 4 is a clear winner here.

Operating system:

The G5 Plus is powered by Android Nougat, with no bloatware what so ever. The Note 4 comes with heavily skinned MiUi V8, on top of Android Marshmallow. The stock vanilla experience from Moto is almost as good as any Nexus or a pixel phone. On the other hand, the Xiaomi’s MiUi V8 is filled with tons of customizable features, which makes it appealing as the time passes. The Xiaomi will take time to update its OS, whereas the Moto is the one of the first to roll out OTA for the next big update. Even rooting and unlocking boot loader will not void warranty; on the other hand, if you root Moto, the warranty is void.

Design:

Both devices offers premium design language with all metal unibody built. Finally, if you are looking mainly for photography and stock android experience, go with Moto G5 Plus, if your main priority is about battery backup, storage, big screen with smaller price tag, Redmi Note 4 will be the device you should be looking for.
