Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner scored a gorgeous penalty shot goal in his team’s Monday game against the New York Islanders.
At the 3:43 mark of the third period, Islanders defenseman Dennis Seidenberg hooked Skinner on a breakaway, which led to the penalty shot call. Skinner then quickly deked the puck to beat Islanders goaltender Thomas Greiss to put the Hurricanes up 7-4.
A review of the goal as to whether Greiss made contact with it was inconclusive, which meant it stood as a good goal. The Hurricanes won the game 8-4.
The goal for Skinner was his 23rd on the season as the team tries to get back on track after the Hurricanes won just one game from Feb. 7 through March 3. Carolina is way out of a playoff spot with 67 points – nine back of the Toronto Maple Leafs for the final Wild Card position in the Eastern Conference.
Meanwhile, the loss for the Islanders kept New York one point back of the Leafs.
