Lenovo Moto G5 Plus, the Nostalgia

123

Moto’s parent company Lenovo launched their much anticipated mid-tier smartphone, the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus. This is the first time, the Moto G lineup is seen in all metal built, with premium design language.

The Moto G5 is slightly underpowered, compared to the Moto G5 Plus. That is acceptable, because of the difference in the price tag. However, both device looks identical; in terms of design, one being slightly smaller at 5-inch screen, with other housing a 5.2 inch FHD IPS LCD screen, with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The Moto G5 is the cheapest of the lot, consisting of all metal built, with a 5 inch IPS LCD screen. Under the hood, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 Octa Core processor takes care of every task. In terms of RAM and storage, one can go with either, 2GB/16 GB or 3GB/32GB RAM model.Moto G5

Moving on to the camera department, the device houses a 13 MP rear facing camera, with F/2.0 aperture, the device can capture 1080p videos at 30 fps. There is a dual tone LED flash, which facilitates low light photography as well. The 5 MP fixed focus selfie camera takes care of selfie needs, with F/2.2 aperture.

The Moto G5 packs a not so humongous 2800 mAh Li-Ion (non user replaceable) battery, with Turbo Boost charging technology (0 to 60 percent in 30 minutes), via a USB type C port.

Looking at it’s big brother, The Moto G5 Plus, which feels like a mini flagship smartphone in all the aspects, starting from hardware to build quality.

Even, the Moto G5 Plus’s display is 1080p; however, it is slightly larger, measuring at 5.2 inch, protected by same Corning Gorilla Glass 3. On the inside, the device extracts horse power from the much appreciated Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Processor (first in it’s class to utilize 14 nm FinFET architecture, which gives a great boost to battery life, as well as performs like a top tier SoC). One can go with either 2GB/32GB or 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB RAM and storage options, with an additional SD card slot. We suggest anyone to go with 3 GB model, to be on the safer side at least for few more years.

The best aspect of this device is it’s 12 MP rear facing main camera. If you remember, this is the same sensor used in Samsung Galaxy S7, with F/1.7 aperture, which can take amazing photographs in natural or artificial lightning condition. However, there is no optical image stabilization, so, videos from this device will be a little shaky, unless you have very sturdy hands. Unlike G5, this device can record native 4K videos at 30 fps. The selfie camera is replicated from the Moto G5, with same 5 MP sensor, F/2.2 aperture, and 720p video recording capability.Moto G5 Plus

The Moto G5 Plus packs, slightly bigger 3000 mAh Li-Ion (non user replaceable battery) which supports Turbo Charging via USB Type C, which can also be used to connect pen-drives and hard discs, as the device supports USB OTG.

Finally, both devices run on Android Nougat, with Pixel like launcher on the top. These are also one of the few devices to support Google Assistance out of the box. Moto G5 and G5 Plus comes with biometric finger print scanner, located just beneath the display, the sensor also doubles as navigation key as well.

Coming to the pricing, the Moto G5 starts from $200, whereas the entry level Moto G5 comes with a $230 price tag.

There are a few changes with respect to camera capabilities, depending on the market. Both devices offer a huge amount of features; these are the best Moto G devices after their first Gen Moto G. Lets wait for a full review to understand more about these devices.
