LaVar Ball goes one-on-one with Marcellus Wiley, takes shot at LeBron Jr.

LaVar Ball, the father of UCLA guard Lonzo Ball, has said that he can beat several superstars in a game of one-on-one. He has gone back and forth with TNT’s Charles Barkley, but that game hasn’t happened yet. Ball’s biggest claim? That he would’ve destroyed six-time NBA champion Michael Jordan.

He hasn’t gotten a chance to challenge Jordan, but on Monday he got to take a crack at “SportsNation” host Marcellus Wiley. Spoiler alert: Ball won. And he did a celebratory dance to commemorate the moment.

As if his one-on-one challenges aren’t ridiculous enough, Ball also told FS1’s Chris Broussard on his podcast that LeBron James’ son, LeBron Jr. (who is a 12-year-old rising basketball star), will not be very good because his father is already good.

“His son is alright,” Ball said. ” … the monsters in the NBA, their dads wasn’t that good. They were OK, they was players, but the fact that the old Curry wasn’t no All-Star, he wasn’t cold. He could shoot the ball though. Kobe Bryant, his dad wasn’t all that, that’s why he’s such a monster.”

He continued: “You got LeBron, it’s gonna be so hard for his kids, cause they gonna look at them like ‘You gotta be just like your dad.’ And after a while that pressure starts sitting on you like ‘Why do I gotta be like him, why can’t I just be me?’ And then they’re gonna be like ‘Aw, you’re soft, you’re not that good.’ Because the expectation is very, very high. My sons are good, they’re great. But let’s say I really excelled in football and made millions of millions of dollars. Do I spend that time with them now? No, I have to worry about the offseason and I just buy you a trainer and hope that you turn out OK. Whereas the fact that I wasn’t all that, allows me to take the time to make my boys all that.”

Ball’s logic seems a bit far-fetched, but not surprising considering all of the other slightly off things he has said.
